A simply stunning example of a mid/late Victorian satinwood inlaid three seater settee.
This elegant piece of furniture has a finely carved three-seat shield back with a wheatsheaf motif at top of each of the curving open splats. Each of these splats features a delicate satinwood inlay veneer. To each end, the beautifully curved arms have a delicate scroll turn and foliate decoration and both arm supports are further carved with more foliate artistry. The seat is raised on front cabriole legs with acanthus leaf and scrolled knees, slender legs, with an unusual collar around each leg, and exceptional ball-and-claw feet. To the rear are a pair of square splayed back legs. The seat edge has a rope twist carving, and the seat itself is upholstered in a vivid blue fabric.
