A wonderful and abstract Grebo six eyed warrior shield mask
The Grebo people live in southeast Liberia at the border with the Ivory Coast. Little is known about the use of masks among the Grebo other than the fact that they are said to have been worn during wars by leaders as a kind of military costume. Though not worn for warfare today they are worn at the funeral ceremonies of elders. Grebo masks are characterized by an elongated nose and tubular eyes. Since the masks often have multiple pairs of eyes, they may depict seers. A wonderful decorative item.
Overall condition is excellent with age realted wear and tear.
